My name is Nina Beck, and I have joined the lab to investigate how the brain flexibly uses information across multiple contexts, particularly when this process is influenced or disrupted by emotional factors. To address this question, I combine fMRI with neurocomputational modeling and behavioral experiments to identify the neural mechanisms that support flexible representations within and across abstract knowledge spaces. I am deeply interested in how the brain encodes our perception of and interaction with the world. During my master’s thesis, I investigated the neural representation of perceived actions, aiming to identify the underlying dimensions along which neural activity related to action observation and understanding is organized. Thus, my broader goal is to understand how the brain encodes and constructs flexible representations supporting adaptive behavior in daily life. My guiding principle is to use advanced analytical methods to extract the maximum amount of information from experimental data.
